Dr. Tawni Hunt Ferrarini is an economist, author, and internationally recognized economics educator. She earned her PhD from Washington University in St. Louis, where she studied under Nobel Laureate Douglass C. North. A former professor and department chair at Northern Michigan University, she has designed economics curricula, trained educators internationally, and received multiple awards for innovation in economic education.

Detailed Description
- Submit your application by December 15, 2026
- Choose your track: for credit or not-for-credit.
- Submit your transcript and any required supporting documents (English proficiency evidence, if applicable).
- International applicants: all documents must be in English, with translation where needed.
- Our admissions team will review your application and follow up, including scheduling an English proficiency interview, if applicable.

You’ll choose your track when you apply. This choice is locked in once course rosters are finalized, so consider carefully which is right for you.
Note regarding Financial Aid: The EO Microeconomics Accelerator does not provide general financial aid to applicants.
Eligibility
You can apply if you:
- Have completed 10th grade (or the equivalent, for students outside the U.S.)
- Have a cumulative GPA of 3.00/4.00 or higher (or an equivalent standard for your school’s grading system)
- Are at least 13 years old
- No previous economics coursework is required — but you should be comfortable with Algebra II (or its equivalent), and have strong reading, writing, and quantitative reasoning skills
Don’t quite meet the GPA or grade-level requirement? You can still apply for an exception – we’ll ask you for a short letter explaining your interest and readiness, a supporting letter from a teacher or counselor, and any relevant test scores.

Application Review & Decision
- All applications will be reviewed by the program’s selection committee.
- Selected applicants will be contacted for a virtual interview to assess their readiness for the program and English language skills.
- After the interviews, two lists will be prepared:
- Selected Participants
- Waiting List (those who may join the program if spots become available)
- Once selected, parents/guardians of the participants will be required to sign a Consent and Agreement Document that confirms:
- Their agreement for the student’s participation in the program.
- Their acceptance of the program’s terms, including financial responsibilities.
- If a selected participant does not make the tuition payment within 10 days, the next student on the waiting list will be contacted.
- The waiting list candidate must follow the same process: submitting the Consent and Agreement Document and making the advance payment within 10 days to secure their spot.
What’s the difference between the credit and not-for-credit tracks? Both tracks cover the same course content, workload, and instructor access. Credit-track students receive a graded transcript entry and 3 transferable NMU credits; not-for-credit students receive a certificate of completion and digital badge, with no grade or transcript record.
Can I switch tracks after I apply? No. Your track selection is locked once course rosters are finalized.
Is there live class time? Yes, classes will meet approximately 2 times and week and assignments and material will be provided using a Learning Management System. The instructor also holds optional Zoom office hours, and you can submit questions any time with a guaranteed response within 24 hours.
What if I don’t meet the GPA or grade-level requirement? You can request an exception with supporting documentation, see Application and Eligibility above.
What is the expected time commitment for the program? The EO Microeconomics Accelerator is an intensive program. Students will be required to spend approximately 30-40 hours a week on classes, independent learning, assignments, and assessments.
